New Uniforms Increase Access to Youth Sports in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: September 4, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $3,262

Youth participation in Monte Vista’s recreational sports leagues has grown significantly in recent years—great news as organized sports can support kids’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being and foster community connection. However, many recently enrolled children come from economically disadvantaged families that struggle to afford the league’s uniform fees.

The City’s Recreation Director wanted to ensure that these costs never prevented a child from being able to participate, so he contacted LOR with an idea: purchase the volleyball and football uniforms for the third through sixth-grade teams and provide them to families free of charge.

LOR’s funding will enable the city to invest in higher quality uniforms, which can be returned, laundered, and reused for future seasons, helping to alleviate financial stress and get as many kids out on the field (or court!) as possible.
