A Freezer Keeps Food Safe for Libby Families in Need

  • Local Champion: Libby Food Pantry
  • Date Funded: July 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,038

The Libby Food Pantry serves approximately 250 households each month, but its aging freezer has become a safety hazard for both volunteers and those who receive food. The malfunctioning unit requires weekly water refills, leaks onto the floor, and sometimes fails to maintain proper temperatures for perishable foods. Two pantry volunteers worried about their ability to safely serve families, so they reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Food Pantry purchase a new convertible freezer-refrigerator unit that can consistently and safely accommodate the food bank’s various storage needs. The new equipment will allow volunteers to focus on food distribution rather than maintenance, ensuring food-insecure families continue receiving the perishable goods they depend on.
