Custom Skateboard Art Supports Food Security in Cortez

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: July 15, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $4,490

Cortez residents are increasingly struggling with food insecurity, while local food assistance groups are scrambling to help families amid reduced funding and limited grant access. One founding member of Beech Street Skate saw an opportunity to address both problems with a creative solution: a community fundraiser and food drive that would unite the skateboarding community with local donors. LOR’s funding helped the local and Beech Street Skate hire an artist and purchase the supplies to create custom skateboard decks for sale at the fundraiser. The proceeds will support Four Corners Food Not Bombs and Good Sam’s Food Pantry, bolstering efforts to ensure that no Cortez family goes hungry.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
