New Equipment Keeps Lander Track Athletes Safe

  • Local Champion: Fremont County School District #1
  • Date Funded: July 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,709

In Lander, track athletes have real talent—with several students earning college scholarships in recent years—but outdated and insufficient equipment creates safety risks during training and competition. Problems range from uncovered sand pits that feral cats use as litter boxes to heavy throwing equipment stored far from practice areas. When the new high school track coach recognized these hazards during her first year, she reached out to LOR with an idea for upgrading essential equipment to ensure Lander’s middle school and high school track athletes—including homeschooled and Pathfinder students who participate through the district—can train safely to their full potential. LOR’s funding will help purchase essential safety equipment including vinyl pit covers, a cart for equipment transport, new pole vault poles in missing sizes, a splinter-free takeoff ramp, and plyo boxes that can stay near the long jump pits.
