Lander Inclusion Movement Helps Residents With Disabilities Build Community

  • Local Champion: Lander Inclusion Movement
  • Date Funded: September 8, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $26,614

Lander is home to about 250 residents who have an intellectual, cognitive, or physical disability, and while some healthcare providers in the area offer therapy and life-skills classes, this group lacked a central location where they could participate in community-building activities, join educational events, and share their talents. To address this problem, a local volunteer brought forward an idea to create the Lander Inclusion Movement (LIM) in a central location where residents could come together at a set time each week. In order to secure the space, though, the LIM needed help—so they reached out to the LOR Foundation. With funding from LOR, LIM was able to purchase insurance, cover rent and utilities for one year, and outfit their new space with event and marketing supplies—including a new laptop—that will support 45 weekly events in the coming year.
