Lander Adventure Camp Provides Outdoor and Leadership Skills to Local Youth

  • Local Champion: Academy of the Winds
  • Date Funded: February 15, 2021
  • Grant Amount: $19,853

In the summer of 2020, COVID-19 canceled the City of Lander’s youth programming and left many families scrambling for quality childcare. A staffer at the Academy of the Winds wanted to make sure the same thing didn’t happen in 2021. With funding from LOR, their team was able to take advantage of Lander’s incredible outdoor and backcountry resources to set up a multi-week camp for children between the ages of 5 and 10. The team hired local professional outdoor educators to run the camp, which featured activities such as rock climbing, backpacking, survival skills, and plant and tree identification. LOR funding also covered supplies such as first aid kits, maps, fishing licenses, climbing and backpacking gear, journals, and food.
