Free Art Classes Create New Opportunities for Cortez Adults with Disabilities

  • Local Champion: The Arc of Southwest Colorado
  • Date Funded: October 29, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $5,820

Cortez adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities have few opportunities for social and educational activities. To address the dearth of social programming in Cortez, one staff member with The Arc of Southwest Colorado wanted to start free community art classes for local adults with disabilities. In need of help, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help The Arc of Southwest Colorado hire a specialized art teacher and purchase supplies like canvases, paints, and clay to kickstart the classes and encourage Cortez adults with disabilities to explore their creativity and build community connections.
