Dōjō in Lander Meets Increased Demand for Low-Cost Martials Arts Instruction

  • Local Champion: Wind River Dōjō
  • Date Funded: September 1, 2021
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Wind River Dōjō in Lander is a volunteer-run martial arts training program founded in 2014. The program provides instruction, training, and competitive opportunities for students of varied ages and backgrounds in both traditional and modern forms of jiu jitsu, judo, kickboxing, and other martial arts. As word has spread about this high-quality, low-cost program, demand for it has steadily grown, and by 2021 the number of students had surpassed what it was able to safely accommodate on its existing mats. LOR was able to help the Dōjō continue to meet the increased community need by providing funding to purchase additional training mats. Not only did this solution mean the Dōjō could serve more students overall, it also meant that the program could better follow COVID-19 distancing protocols, ensuring it could provide a safe training environment for all.
