Cortez Students Step Up For STEM Resources

  • Local Champion: Battle Rock Charter School
  • Date Funded: December 13, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $8,194

Students at Battle Rock Elementary School have limited resources to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts in a free, creative way during independent study time. A group of sixth graders stepped up to change that. After reaching out via the LOR Foundation website, three students brought forward an idea to create a “maker space” where students could “let their imaginations go wild.” With LOR’s help, the school was able to purchase a STEM cart with tools and materials that Battle Rock students can use to create projects that will expand their understanding of technical concepts.
