Child Abuse Prevention Training Gives Cortez Residents Essential Knowledge

  • Local Champion: Four Corners Child Advocacy Center
  • Date Funded: September 14, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,000

Having trained professionals who can conduct investigations into child abuse is essential for any community–but in Cortez, law enforcement and other partners lack specialized training. Typically, to receive such training, participants would have to travel to another community, increasing costs significantly. However, the Four Corners Child Advocacy Center hoped to address this problem by bringing external trainers to Cortez, with the cost per participant being just under $500. The Child Advocacy Center was able to fund training for 15 community members (the minimum number required by external trainers), and with LOR’s support they are able to offer the training to an additional 10 community members, increasing the number of residents who will know how to assist when a child is facing potential harm.
