HEPA Equipment Improves Air Quality in Monte Vista Schools

  • Local Champion: Monte Vista School District NO. C-8
  • Date Funded: August 18, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $13,415

Monte Vista schools face a persistent air quality challenge: wind, agricultural activity, and rising wildfire smoke across the San Luis Valley have made it difficult to maintain healthy indoor environments for students and staff, many of whom live with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory sensitivities. When a Monte Vista School District staff member identified the problem, she reached out to LOR with a solution: purchase HEPA vacuum equipment to reduce dust, allergens, smoke, and ash inside school buildings across the district. LOR’s funding will help the Monte Vista School District purchase five HEPA backpack vacuum kits with batteries, two cordless HEPA upright vacuums, two bagless cordless HEPA filter stick vacuums, and additional HEPA filters and accessories for use across all district schools. This equipment will help create healthier indoor environments for students, staff, and visitors for years to come.
