Baseball Equipment Opens Up the Sport for Cortez Youth

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Athletic Training and Sports (MCATS)
  • Date Funded: March 5, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $4,660

Many Cortez families struggle to afford youth baseball, limiting participation and leaving many kids without the benefits of organized sports. After opening an indoor batting cage and seeing firsthand the financial barriers, one local coach decided to come up with a solution. LOR’s funding helped Montezuma County Athletic Training and Sports purchase baseball equipment—including catcher’s gear, helmets, bats, balls, and other training tools—to launch a low-to-no-cost baseball program for 10-to-14-year-olds. The equipment will allow dozens of Cortez kids to develop their skills and prepare for high school baseball regardless of their family’s financial situation.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
