Auditorium Upgrades Transform Cortez’s Performing Arts

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: September 17, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

The auditorium at Montezuma-Cortez High School has supported an array of school and community activities since the new high school opened in 2015. But as of late, it’s been struggling to keep pace with growing demand. As student and community participation has surged, the auditorium’s aging sound, lighting, set, and costume equipment have become hurdles to growing Cortez’s performing arts. One junior at the high school had a vision to transform the auditorium into the premier performing arts location in Cortez. So, she approached LOR with an idea to update the venue with much-needed equipment and supplies. LOR’s funding will help the school purchase new professional lighting, microphones, and other supplies like lumber, tools, and clothing. The auditorium updates will not only benefit the high school’s theater participants but also numerous community groups, fostering a broader sense of community and welcoming locals of all ages to participate in the arts.
