Arbor Day Event Builds Awareness of Native Trees in Taos

  • Local Champion: Town of Taos Tree Board
  • Date Funded: January 30, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

The removal of several trees as part of Taos’ downtown plaza reconstruction generated increased conversation about tree planting among local residents. A member of the town’s Tree Board recognized the need to make information about native tree species—and their proper planting, pruning, and maintenance—readily available to interested community members. So, he reached out to LOR with a solution: host a series of ‘tree talks’ and events that will give Taos residents of all ages access to the information and physical materials they need to be responsible stewards of native trees. LOR’s support will fund the creation of informational materials, the promotion and production of an Arbor Day event, and the purchase of planting materials for event attendees.
