Upgraded Disc Golf Course Welcomes Players of All Skill Levels in Lander

  • Local Champion: Fremont Disc Golf
  • Date Funded: May 26, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $12,821

In Lander, disc golf is growing in popularity with 100 players on the community mailing list and 30-40 showing up every Monday night for organized play. The sport creates unexpected community connections, bringing together people who wouldn’t otherwise cross paths, from NOLS employees to lab technicians. Unfortunately, the only course in town is difficult, poorly marked, and designed only for advanced players. When a recently formed disc golf nonprofit noticed barriers preventing new players from entering the sport, they reached out to LOR for support to upgrade the course to serve players at all levels. The solution includes installing two sets of removable baskets and tee pads—one shorter beginner-friendly layout and one longer advanced layout—plus concrete tee pads, improved signage, and collars that can be repositioned for variety. LOR’s funding will help purchase baskets, collars, signage, concrete, and promotional materials.
