Shade Structures Make Lander Farmer’s Market More Welcoming for Shoppers and Vendors

In Lander, the farmer’s market is wildly popular with 16,000 shoppers and an average of 30 vendors during the 2025 summer season, but the blacktop location is unbearably hot, making it uncomfortable for both shoppers and vendors. After years of market success in its 19th season, the market manager recognized that shade—the most requested improvement from the community—was essential to making the market more welcoming. After extensive research and trial and error, she found a solution: Poly-Tex Sun Shadow shade structures designed to withstand Wyoming winds while staying up all season. The semi-permanent mesh canopies provide relief from the heat while creating a gathering space where shoppers can linger, visit with family and friends, and connect with local producers. The shaded environment encourages longer visits and increased vendor sales, particularly for those offering ready-to-eat food. LOR’s funding will help purchase two shade structure kits, barrel-style leg weights, and signage, transforming the popular market into a more comfortable community gathering space.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
