A Peer Support Program Uplifts Cortez Parents in Recovery

  • Local Champion: Piñon Project
  • Date Funded: October 15, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $15,900

The Piñon Project’s Circle of Parents program has become a vital support system for Cortez parents working toward recovery. Using a peer mentorship model, the program’s weekly meetings create a trusted space where parents can share experiences and find support from others who understand their challenges firsthand. But while many community agencies rely on the program, unexpected funding changes threatened to end the essential service. In need of help, one staff member reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the Piñon Project provide weekly Circle of Parents meetings, including meals, child care, transportation assistance, and trained facilitators, strengthening local families so that all Cortez parents and kids can thrive.
