A Mobile Cooking Cart Keeps Cortez Food Education Alive Year-Round

  • Local Champion: Montezuma School to Farm
  • Date Funded: November 8, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $16,100

The Montezuma School to Farm Project enriches science education in Cortez elementary and middle schools, but winter weather often forces students away from the outdoor gardens where they learn best. Looking for ways to maintain student engagement during cold months, one staff member reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the Montezuma School to Farm Project purchase a portable cooking cart equipped with a convection oven, induction cooktop, and rinse station. The mobile kitchen will travel between Kemper Elementary, Mesa Elementary, and Montezuma-Cortez Middle School, allowing students to continue hands-on learning about food systems and nutrition year-round.
