A Collaborative Support Program Keeps Cortez Families Safely Housed

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: February 14, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Rising costs and reduced funding for local nonprofits and agencies have left many Cortez families struggling to maintain stable housing and safe home environments. Through her home visits, one Cortez therapist found families facing challenges from utility shutoffs to unsafe furniture—problems that could be solved with modest, timely assistance. After seeing how small fixes could prevent evictions and make homes safer for children, she came up with the idea to create a collaborative assistance program. LOR’s funding helped establish an emergency housing support fund, allowing local nonprofits, churches, and government agencies to help families stay in their homes and create safer environments for children.
