Youth-Led Nature Camp Teaches Lander Kids About the Environment

  • Local Champion: Carpe Diem
  • Date Funded: June 2, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $1,920

In Lander, kids often find summer activities feel like traditional school programs. When a high school student and her siblings recognized this gap, they decided to create their own solution: a hands-on nature camp where youth teach each other about the environment. As they planned their five-week program and costs began adding up, they reached out to LOR for support. Each session will include take-home projects like handmade salves, journals, and wooden badges, with instruction led by a student based on their individual strengths. This free program serves up to 10 participants per session, creating leadership opportunities for Lander youth while helping younger kids reconnect with the wild spaces. LOR’s funding will help purchase supplies for weekly lessons on topics like edible and medicinal plants, bird identification, and other local environmental knowledge.
