Warmer Duds Allow Lander’s Civil Air Patrol to Support Winter Community Events

  • Local Champion: Civil Air Patrol Wind River 044 Composite Squadron
  • Date Funded: January 29, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,850

Lander’s Civil Air Patrol squadron—which teaches student cadets rocketry, leadership, and how to perform color guard duties—has doubled in size in the last three years, and that growth does not appear to be slowing. Anyone is welcome to become a cadet with a one-time $30 registration fee and a $25 annual membership fee. The national Civil Air Patrol provides each cadet with a $100 voucher for a uniform. However, that voucher covers only the summer uniform and many cadets cannot afford the second, winter uniform. This limits the Lander Civil Air Patrol’s ability to support community events, including honoring veterans, in the coldest months. One recent graduate came up with a plan to outfit all cadets with winter gear and thus increase their ability to support community events year-round—he just needed a little help and reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of 15 winter uniforms.
