Winter Gear and Hot Meals Support Taos’ Most Vulnerable Residents

  • Local Champion: Iglesia Casa De Oracion
  • Date Funded: August 28, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,962

Many Taos County residents—especially elders, people experiencing homelessness, and low-income families—lack access to essential cold-weather gear during the harsh winter months.

Recognizing an opportunity to build on their longstanding service, a coalition of local faith-based organizations reached out to LOR with an idea: expand their annual free Thanksgiving meal—now in its 11th year serving over 400 residents—to also include the distribution of winter essentials like hats, gloves, socks, and blankets.

With support from LOR, the coalition will purchase and distribute these cold-weather items alongside their traditional hot Thanksgiving meal. This expanded effort offers not only a warm meal but also critical winter supplies—and a stronger sense of care and connection for those who need it most.
