Video Equipment Helps Cortez Students Trade Spinning Wheels for Skill Building

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: June 21, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $21,200

Students in the video production class at Montezuma-Cortez High School should be watching and editing hours of film. Instead, they see a lot of the dreaded spinning wheel. The video lab’s aging computers and editing software cause frequent frustration and delays for students as they wait for lags to catch up. In some cases, projects take twice as long, never mind that the lab’s production software is also obsolete. Montezuma-Cortez’s drama and career and technical education coordinator—who teaches the video production class—wanted to upgrade the school’s equipment and help students gain skills that could lead to immediate employment. In need of support, he reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Montezuma-Cortez High School purchase eight desktop computer editing stations and a storage system, giving videography students the chance to learn on industry-standard technology and better collaborate on classroom and community projects.
