Tunnel Vision: Interactive Soil Tools Bring Underground Education to Lander

  • Local Champion: Popo Agie Conservation District
  • Date Funded: May 20, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,500

In Lander, where soil types vary, many residents lack knowledge about maintaining healthy soil in their yards—knowledge that’s becoming increasingly important as more people embrace growing their own food. Currently, no one in the community provides this specialized education, despite clear interest from gardeners and students. When the education coordinator for the Popo Agie Conservation District recognized this gap, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help purchase a customizable inflatable soil tunnel and a locally designed Plinko board that demonstrates how water moves through different soil layers. These interactive tools will allow participants to walk through and see soil’s underground ecosystem, including the beneficial bugs and bacteria that create healthy growing conditions.
