Transitional Assistance Reduces Risk of Long-Term Homelessness for Taos Families

Many Taos families at risk of experiencing homelessness face long wait times for public assistance and permanent housing, and this extended period of instability—lasting anywhere from months to years—can negatively impact everything from childhood development to mental health, physical health, and job security. So, a staff member at Youth Heartline reached out to LOR with a solution: quickly provide rent assistance and basic furnishings for temporary housing (via designated Youth Heartline navigators) to support vulnerable families as they search for permanent housing.

LOR’s funding will provide emergency rental assistance to 10-20 families and furnish their short-term rentals, helping minimize stress and disruption for children, elders, and their caregivers as they seek sustainable, long-term housing alternatives.
