Traffic Data Equipment Helps Libby Manage Growing Road Use

  • Local Champion: City of Libby
  • Date Funded: November 19, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,150

Libby’s population has grown by more than 5,000 residents in five years, fundamentally changing traffic patterns and creating congestion on roads. Without data on current traffic flows, speeds, and problem areas, city officials struggle to make informed decisions about road improvements, safety measures, and infrastructure planning. One officer with the Libby Police Department wanted the city to have more information to address community traffic concerns, so he reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the city of Libby purchase light detection and radar equipment that officers can use to measure traffic patterns, document crash scenes, and identify congestion hotspots throughout town. The data will enable city officials to make evidence-based decisions about road improvements while helping officers respond more effectively to accidents and traffic safety concerns.
