Theater Equipment Helps Launch a New Cortez Arts Center

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: June 5, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $25,202

Cortez youth have limited access to quality performing arts opportunities. Additionally, most of Cortez’s existing performing arts venues are either too small or too expensive to host larger community theater programs and performances. After seeing the overwhelming community response to recent Montezuma-Cortez High School productions—including 120 participants and sold-out shows—a former educator and his spouse came up with the idea to create a dedicated arts center. LOR’s funding helped the Cortez locals purchase professional lighting, sound equipment, and other supplies to establish the Lamp Post Creative Learning Center. Beginning with a summer camp production of Finding Nemo Jr., the center will support year-round theater programs while also providing a venue for other local performing arts groups.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
