Spooky Tours Introduce Cortez Residents to Local History and Merchants

  • Local Champion: Squirrel Congress
  • Date Funded: September 11, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $4,999

For Cortez residents, there are few opportunities to engage with eachother, history, and culture—especially while exploring and downtown attractions and patronizing local merchants. To address the issue, a local organization called Squirrel Congress is launching historical ghost tours to connect residents with Cortez’s past, support local businesses, and add a little suspense to the spooky season. Walking tours will take place around downtown from Main Street to Market Street. As stories are told, tour guides will share history and even artisanal popsicle tasters that enhance the storytelling. To that end, support from the LOR Foundation is being used to for a variety of event materials, including ingredients for the popsicles, tables, coolers, lighting, as well as marketing and event promotion.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
