Signs Help Visitors and Volunteers Navigate Weiser’s Hillcrest Cemetery

  • Local Champion: Hillcrest Cemetery District
  • Date Funded: March 22, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $6,069

A few times each month volunteers at Weiser’s Hillcrest Cemetery find themselves at a loss. Without clear signs throughout the cemetery, they struggle to give directions to the visitors trying to find the burial plots of their loved ones. The visitors often grow frustrated, upending the sacred and deeply personal experience. One passionate cemetery volunteer recognized the challenge she had pointing out plot locations. She had the idea to place markers throughout the cemetery, but the cemetery’s limited budget was a barrier. In need of help, she reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the cemetery, a division of Washington County, purchase 19 weather-resistant signs from a local supplier and other supplies to install them. In addition, LOR’s funding will help the cemetery acquire 200 aluminum plates to serve as markers for the cemetery’s unmarked graves, giving families and their loved ones the respect they deserve.
