Shade and Seating Offer Opportunities for Community Engagement in Taos

  • Local Champion: Talpa Community Center Association Inc.
  • Date Funded: September 24, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $13,961

Since the Talpa Community Market launched in 2022, it has continued to grow in popularity among participating vendors and community visitors. Shoppers at the market have access to a variety of locally sourced produce, dairy products, baked goods, arts and crafts, and more. However, the space lacked the shade and seating that would encourage patrons to enjoy the recently added live music programming or engage in any community-building activity for an extended period of time. So, a Talpa Community Center employee reached out to LOR with an idea: construct shade structures and install permanent picnic tables beneath them to give Taos locals a comfortable space to gather throughout the year.

LOR’s support will fund the supplies to construct the shade structures, purchase four commercial-grade picnic tables, and cover the cost of construction and installation for both elements, helping to expand and deepen the use of this community space during the summer months and beyond.
