Safe Diving Blocks Bring Swimmers (And Sports Tourism) to Taos

  • Local Champion: Taos Swim Club Inc.
  • Date Funded: February 22, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $30,000

The Taos Swim Club recently qualified to sponsor USA Swim Meets at the Taos Youth and Family Center. This means that swimmers are now able to train and compete locally (removing previous financial barriers) and that the Taos economy can enjoy the benefits of increased sports tourism. However, the swim blocks at the aquatics center do not meet regulations and pose a significant safety and liability threat, preventing the club from hosting meets.

The swim club president contacted LOR with a solution: purchase new diving blocks that meet USA Swim standards and enable the club to bring in out-of-town teams for competitions. LOR’s support will enable the club to purchase eight new diving blocks, expanding safe participation and competition opportunities for young swimmers in Taos.
