Pop-Up Roller Skating Brings Community Fun to Lander Venues

  • Local Champion: Fremcowy Roller Derby
  • Date Funded: June 16, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $6,700

In Lander, residents of all ages are interested in roller skating and roller derby, but access to the activity is severely limited. When the president of a local roller derby club realized she and her teammates were constantly fielding requests for access to free skate opportunities, she decided to launch pop up skate nights in Lander. The club owns a removable skating floor that can transform any venue into a temporary rink, allowing them to bring not just competitive derby but free skating—the experience Lander residents have been requesting. Starting with three to four pop-up events throughout the year with plans to increase through the winter and beyond, the club will charge small rental fees for skates to sustain the program while keeping entry free. LOR’s funding will help purchase skates in multiple sizes, safety gear, cover venue rental costs, and provide snacks, making roller skating accessible and fun for the whole community.
