Playground Surfacing Creates a Safe and Accessible Community Space in Taos County

  • Local Champion: Arroyo Seco Community Center
  • Date Funded: July 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,960

In recent years, Taos County has seen a growing call for investment in community spaces, including the Arroyo Seco Community Center, which had fallen into disrepair.

Volunteers working with the County to revitalize the Community Center recently secured thousands of dollars of donated playground equipment. However, the ground in the playground area was hard and uneven, placing children at an increased risk of injury. So one of the volunteers reached out to LOR with an idea: install up-to-code bordering and surfacing to ensure an accessible and safe experience for all children visiting the new playground.

LOR’s funding will pay for the necessary border, play curb, and wood fiber surfacing, as well as the labor to install it.
