Nonprofit Power Hour Provides Key Skills to Local Grassroots Groups

  • Local Champion: Lander Community Foundation
  • Date Funded: November 19, 2021
  • Grant Amount: $7,335

While many rural communities rely on nonprofits to fill a niche in vital services, these charitable groups often have only one paid staff member (or are run entirely by volunteers), and lack the resources needed to develop a deeper organizational understanding of how to operate a sustainable 501(c)3. The Lander Community Foundation’s director witnessed this problem firsthand and reached out to LOR for help with a solution. With funding from LOR, they put together a monthly training series for local nonprofits, bringing in experts to cover everything from organizational structure, fundraising strategies, grant research and writing, board development and oversight, strategic planning, structuring finances, and other fundamental building blocks of any 501(c)3. The Nonprofit Power Hour series was a tremendous boon for the community, as many nonprofit volunteers, staff, and board members attended each training and came away with the skills to help their organizations and Lander thrive.
