New Wildland Gear Protects Questa’s Volunteer Firefighters

  • Local Champion: Village Of Questa
  • Date Funded: August 12, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $21,664

The Questa Volunteer Fire Department is being called to fight wildfires with increasing frequency, but lacks the proper wildland gear—putting firefighters at serious risk as they work to protect homes, land, and natural resources.

To close this critical safety gap, the department’s newly appointed fire chief reached out to LOR with a clear solution: equip volunteers with specialized wildland gear designed for mobility, breathability, and heat resistance in brush, grass, and forest fire conditions.

With LOR’s support, the department will purchase helmets, flame-resistant clothing, boots, and other protective gear to fully outfit 15 firefighters. This investment will ensure volunteers can respond safely and effectively to wildfires in the drought-prone national forest lands surrounding Questa—protecting both themselves and the community they serve.
