A Shed Expands Rescue Capacity for Cortez’s Feral Cats

  • Local Champion: Rachel's Forgotten Felines Rescue
  • Date Funded: February 2, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,850

Feral cats are a frequent concern in Cortez, leading many residents to call the founder of Rachel’s Forgotten Felines Rescue for help. The problem is capacity. With 15 to 20 cats already in her home and garage awaiting adoption, the founder can’t accommodate the roughly two dozen calls she receives from local residents each month. Looking for a solution, she reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Rachel’s Forgotten Felines purchase and install a 12-by-24-foot shed to house five to 10 additional cats and provide a quarantine space for animals recovering from surgery or veterinary care. The new facility will allow the rescue to trap and rehabilitate more feral cats, moving them off Cortez streets and into adoptive homes.
