A Land Easement Completes Libby’s New Trail System

  • Local Champion: Libby Parks District
  • Date Funded: February 2, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $29,881

With state funding, the Libby Parks District has been working to build out a trail system for locals and visitors. The problem is a 0.8-mile gap through state land that the Norgard Trail, an all-ability path that will connect an in-town trailhead to the broader 13-mile network, must pass. After years of development, parks district staff wanted to finish this important connector and open the new trail system to the public, so they reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Parks District purchase a land easement from Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and complete construction on the final section. The completed trail will provide year-round recreation near town while connecting residents to historic ranching and mining sites along the longer trail system.
