New Curriculum Connects Lander Students to Local Land Stewardship Principles

  • Local Champion: Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom
  • Date Funded: February 19, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,850

Surrounded by public lands, Lander residents understand the importance of responsible land stewardship, but local youth have had limited opportunities to learn these crucial skills. After seeing this gap in education, one local educator reached out to LOR with an idea to bring Wyoming Agriculture in the Classroom‘s proven curriculum to more Lander students. Already successful with third graders, this tailored program focuses on Lander’s economic drivers—outdoor recreation, tourism, and agriculture—while aligning with state educational standards. LOR’s funding will help expand the curriculum to second, fourth, and fifth graders, providing teacher materials and incentives for student participation. The program creates a unique mentorship opportunity as well, with 15 Lander High School students being trained to teach the material to younger students, strengthening connections across schools while ensuring the next generation understands how to care for the lands that sustain their community.
