Multi-Agency Training Strengthens Libby Search and Rescue

  • Local Champion: David Thompson Search and Rescue
  • Date Funded: July 9, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,000

The rugged terrain surrounding Libby poses significant challenges when people become lost or injured, often requiring the response of David Thompson Search and Rescue and other nearby search and rescue teams. But to this point there has been limited cross-agency collaboration that would allow northwest Montana’s search and rescue organizations to share knowledge, pool resources, and develop area-specific skills. Hoping to improve local emergency response, the head of David Thompson Search and Rescue reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help David Thompson Search and Rescue coordinate a multi-day training event that brings together search and rescue units from across the region, improving their ability to serve Libby's growing population and the increasing number of visitors exploring Kootenai National Forest.
