Modified Ride-On Cars Give Lander Children with Disabilities New Freedom

  • Local Champion: Lander local
  • Date Funded: May 6, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $6,959

In Lander, children with mobility challenges often miss out on everyday activities like playing with neighborhood friends or independently moving through their homes. After recognizing how standard mobility equipment fails to meet these children’s diverse needs, one local disability advocate had an idea to create customized solutions: Work with Pathfinder High School robotics students to modify toys to address each child’s specific mobility requirements. Working alongside volunteer physical therapists and electricians, these students will transform basic ride-on toy cars into personalized mobility devices—allowing children to navigate their homes, join neighborhood activities, and experience newfound independence. This pilot program not only provides immediate mobility solutions for six families but also creates a blueprint for expanding the initiative to help more Lander children in the future. LOR’s funding helped purchase tools, safety equipment, and six ride-on toy cars to help the program get off the ground.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
