Medical Kits and Chest Plates Protect the Public and Police Officers in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: February 1, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $11,500

Rural police officers are on the frontlines of public safety. They not only respond to potentially dangerous situations like active shooters, but also car accidents, overdoses, and other emergencies. So, it’s an issue when they don’t have the supplies they need. That was the case in Monte Vista, where some police officers were paying to make their own medical response kits. An officer with the Monte Vista Police Department wanted to create standard medical bags for on-duty officers, as well as purchase stronger chest plates to keep officers safe. In need of support, he reached out to the LOR Foundation. LOR’s funding will help the Monte Vista Police Department purchase more than a dozen backpacks with medical supplies to stop heavy bleeding, reverse overdoses, and provide CPR. It will also support the department’s purchase of hard armor chest plates. With the new equipment, Monte Vista police officers will be able improve public safety and their own.
