A Chair Lift Restores Pool Access for Buffalo Residents with Mobility Challenges

The Johnson County Family YMCA’s pool is the only indoor public pool in Johnson County, welcoming residents of every age and ability for open swim and water aerobics classes. Yet for residents with mobility challenges, access to the pool has been out of reach: The pool’s chair lift is broken, and the previous workaround required a lifeguard and potentially a second staff member to physically assist patrons into the water. With a solution in hand, YMCA staff reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help the Johnson County Family YMCA purchase and install a new pool chair lift, allowing residents with mobility challenges to enter and exit the pool safely with independence and dignity.
