A Life-Saving AED Equips Buffalo’s Courthouse

  • Local Champion: Johnson County Public Health
  • Date Funded: July 9, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $2,442

Downtown Buffalo’s historic Johnson County Courthouse sits at the busy intersection of Main Street and Fort Street, drawing hundreds of residents and visitors each month for vehicle registrations, property tax payments, county commission meetings, and other county business. Yet the courthouse lacks a publicly accessible automated external defibrillator (AED)—a gap that poses a real risk in the event of a cardiac emergency where every minute matters. So, county staff reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help Johnson County Public Health purchase a complete AED package and signs. Staff will receive training on its use and local news coverage will help to inform the community, protecting the residents and visitors who pass through the courthouse’s doors each day.
