Lander Youth Learn Carpentry Skills Through Chicken Coop Project

  • Local Champion: Project Carpe Diem
  • Date Funded: April 9, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,770

In Lander, opportunities for young people to learn practical construction skills are limited, despite strong community interest in carpentry programs. When a local carpenter heard about the Learning Resources Library‘s need for a chicken coop, he saw a perfect opportunity to combine two valuable learning experiences. After recognizing this natural connection, he reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help purchase construction materials, tool sets for participants, and chicken-keeping supplies needed to launch a hands-on carpentry course that will meet over several Saturdays. This practical approach allows youth to gradually build their skills while creating something useful—a functional chicken coop that will remain with the Learning Resources Library, where members can continue learning about raising and caring for chickens long after construction is complete.
