Lander Valley Youth Gain a Basketball Program Designed With Them in Mind

  • Local Champion: Lander Valley Buckets
  • Date Funded: November 22, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $15,594

Basketball is a popular sport for youth in and around Lander, particularly on the Wind River Reservation. Yet there is no formal basketball league for young people until middle school. A local coach wanted to change that by launching leagues for young players between third and eight grade. The Lander Valley Buckets program would be low-cost ($40 for five weeks) to ensure it is accessible to everyone. Already at least 60 young people are interested. LOR’s funding will help support the purchase of equipment (like basketballs and uniforms), professional fees (for referees and clock operators), and marketing materials.

This project is fiscally sponsored by the Lander Community Foundation
