Friday (and Saturday and…) Night Lights: Electrical Upgrades Make City Park Safe for Evening Activities

  • Local Champion: City of Lander, Wyoming
  • Date Funded: June 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $27,000

In Lander, City Park‘s evening activities—from youth football and baseball to Movies in the Park—depend on functional lighting, but the current electrical system poses serious safety risks. The electrical box that controls the lights has been pieced together over many years and creates fire hazards for anyone operating it, while antiquated fixtures waste energy and provide poor illumination. When the junior league football coach and city officials recognized this dangerous situation, they reached out to LOR with a plan to completely overhaul the system. LOR’s funding will help rewire the electrical box with proper safety equipment. This upgrade not only eliminates fire risks but also creates an automated scheduling system that allows community groups to request lighting without needing keys, ensuring safe access to evening recreation for all Lander residents.
