Free CPR Classes Prepare Cortez Locals to Save Lives

  • Local Champion: Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church
  • Date Funded: August 30, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $7,100

Knowing CPR can be lifesaving. Yet, there are few opportunities for CPR training and certification in Cortez. It was a problem one staff member with the Montezuma County Public Health Department heard time and time again while working with a local mothers’ group. Many of the mothers wanted to know how they could become certified in CPR, but the staff member couldn’t find a local instructor who could train the group. Her solution? Get her own teaching certification and hold free CPR classes for Cortez residents at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. LOR’s funding helped the church purchase manikins, defibrillators, workbooks, and other training supplies for the program. The free classes will be held one to two times a month with the goal of training 120 Cortez locals in CPR in the first year of the program.
