Firewood Storage Ensures Libby Residents Stay Warm During Winter

  • Local Champion: Love INC of South Lincoln County
  • Date Funded: April 16, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,100

Many Libby residents rely on firewood as their primary heat source during the winter months, but accessing and storing dry wood is a significant challenge for low-income families. Volunteers with Love INC of South Lincoln County started a program to provide free firewood to those in need, but the group lacked proper storage and much of its donated wood became wet and unusable. Two program volunteers saw this problem and reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help Love INC of South Lincoln County purchase a wood splitter and build three storage shelters, creating a centrally located supply of dry firewood that volunteers can distribute to families throughout Libby’s long winter season.
