Financial Literacy Workshops Help Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Members Build Toward Homeownership

  • Local Champion: Ute Mountain Ute Tribe
  • Date Funded: August 2, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $8,765

Homeownership — and the generational wealth, financial stability, and economic development it can provide — has been a particular focus of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council. But tribal leaders and staff recognized that many Ute Mountain Ute tribal members and Cortez-area residents didn’t have the the financial knowledge they needed to grow toward homeownership. Working with the tribal council, one staff member had the idea to create local financial literacy classes. Looking for support, she reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe rent a space, contract with a facilitator from the Navajo Nation, and print flyers for the workshops. Community banks, insurance providers, and other financial planners will also attend the training, helping tribal members and Cortez-area residents build the relationships they need to realize their financial goals.
