Filters and Reusable Masks Ensure Clean Air for Monte Vista Police Officers

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: June 18, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,677

No two days are the same for officers with the Monte Vista Police Department. On any given day, officers respond to health crises, accidents, and other emergencies, putting their safety and health at risk. The problem is the Monte Vista Police Department has lacked the protective equipment officers need to stay healthy, an issue that has become more pressing as the department has seen more officers falling ill. One lieutenant with the department wanted to limit officers’ exposure to viruses and germs as well as potentially hazardous materials. His idea? Air filters and reusable respiratory equipment. LOR’s funding will support the Monte Vista Police Department’s purchase of 12 air purifiers for its building and 18 reusable N100 masks for its officers, helping the department safely handle dangerous substances and weather illness.
